Born in Ecuador, Freddy Larrosa grew up surrounded by music, art, and the sounds of South American folklore. His parents were both artists and musicians, and by the age of seven he had already picked up the guitar and begun teaching himself how to play. Over time he expanded into piano, drums, flutes, and songwriting, following instinct more than formal training. He describes himself as “a troubadour” whose music carries “the energy of storytelling,” using his own life and spiritual path as inspiration for songs that feel intimate, reflective, and deeply human.
A major influence in Freddy’s life was the Cuban songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, whose ability to speak honestly about hardship and hope left a lasting mark on him. Freddy recalls how those songs “made me feel seen in my struggles,” and inspired him to create music that speaks openly about pain while still pointing toward light. Over the years, his relationship to music changed from wanting external recognition to creating from a more honest and grounded place. “I want to write something that I know is true to me,” he says, describing songwriting now as part of his own healing process. Much of his creative inspiration comes through nature, family life, prayer, and quiet moments outside with a guitar or flute in hand. Rather than forcing songs into existence, he listens for what wants to emerge. “I treat every piece as an individual spirit,” he explains, allowing melodies and words to unfold naturally.
Music has also become central to Freddy’s healing and spiritual life. Through years of participating in medicine circles and ceremonial spaces, he began to witness how songs could move people emotionally and help them reconnect with themselves. He speaks about music as medicine itself, saying, “music carries spirit in a way that not anything else has done for me.” At the heart of his work is a desire for people to soften, let go of isolation, and remember their connection to something greater than themselves. His connection to the Gardenhouse community reflects that same intention. Freddy hopes his songs can be “seeds” planted in people’s hearts, nourishing unity, healing, and real community over time.
