Seraphine is the artist name of Sarah Huber, a Massachusetts born singer songwriter whose music feels like a quiet clearing in the middle of a busy life. Her songs are acoustic and folk leaning, with traces of Tracy Chapman, Joni Mitchell, and Alanis Morissette, but Sarah is less interested in fitting a genre than in telling the truth of what she feels. She writes from personal experience, wisdom traditions, and the emotional ground people share across different lives and backgrounds. Her hope is to give listeners space to “authentically feel things” they might otherwise pass over, and to drop into the parts of themselves that have been waiting for attention.
Sarah has been writing music and poetry since childhood. “I never really thought about it,” she says. “I just started doing it.” For many years, her life was shaped by martial arts, which she taught full time for a couple of decades before stepping back and making music her main focus. She has been living in a van for almost a year and a half, carrying her songs close to the natural world that so often appears in them. Over time, her music has become simpler and more direct. She stopped trying to sound pretty or make things complicated, and began trusting “whatever feels true.” Her creative process usually begins with a feeling, then guitar and words arrive together. Some songs come in a few hours. Others take much longer, not because they are more important, but because, as Sarah says, “it’s taking me longer to learn the lesson.”
Music, for Sarah, is a way of reaching people. “It’s the best way I know how to connect,” she says. She has seen listeners come away from her songs with softened hearts, a desire to repair a relationship, or a sense of healing around grief and regret.
